As its name implies, Smart Sound Recorder is software for recording sounds and music. Unlike other, more basic recording programs, Smart Sound includes several interesting features. You can adjust all the features of the program easily from its simple, easy-to-use interface. You can set up the input device, its volume and left-and-righ channel levels, as well as the quality of the recording, which ranges from 8 kHz, 8 bit mono, to 48 kHz, 16 bit stereo. Also, you can set the type of output file you want to obtain. You can choose between the most popular sound formats like .WAV, MP3, WMA and others.
The program has two main distinctive characteristics. First, it has a built-in silence detector that allows you to stop the recording automatically whenever a prolongued silence appears, saving you subsequent editing. On the other hand, you can shedule recording sessions so the program starts up automatically at fixed intervals to record your favourite Internet radio shows.
The trial version has several limitations, like limiting the recording time to only two minutes, after which a "nagging screen" appears. If you want to use the program at its full capacity, you must purchase a license.
